Depression

Oxidative stress is linked with depressive disorders

Scientific research suggests that oxidative stress is a factor underlying the development of major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Glutathione is the major antioxidant and free radical scavenger in the brain and plays a vital role in mopping up harmful toxins. Without enough glutathione, these toxins accumulate and cause cell damage within the brain.

In a study published in the July 2010 issue of the International Journal of Neuropsyhopharmacology researchers found that the levels of systemic glutathione were significantly decreased in all psychiatric conditions and that individuals with these types of mental disorders may be more susceptible to oxidative stress and free radical damage.

Many people who are depressed turn to alcohol or medications for temporary relief, but unfortunately these only further deplete the vital glutathione levels. Studies show that antioxidant therapy may be of great value in alleviating the oxidative stress associated with depression.

Natural Glutathione Enhancement

It is known that glutathione levels are depleted in depression and that enhanced glutathione levels are beneficial for brain health, but in practice it can be difficult to effectively increase systemic glutathione levels, as glutathione (GSH) is a fragile molecule that is quickly broken down in the digestive system if taken by mouth. Glutathione must be synthesised within the cell because it cannot be transported into cells.

The glutathione prodrug RiboCeine delivers the essential precursor nutrients (ribose and cysteine) to the cell where they can then be turned into glutathione and energy in the form of ATP.RiboCeine has received extensive scientific validation in published peer-reviewed studies and has been shown to increase intracellular glutathione by over 300%. Advanced nutritional supplement Cellgevity™ contains RiboCeine along with a selection of natural antioxidant ingredients including curcumin, which has also been shown to be very beneficial for brain health.
